Mestre Azulão is from Goiere, Brazil (in the state of Parana) and he was a student of Mestre Camarao and Mestre Fran.  Valmir Fernandes de Lima AKA Mestre Azulão first learned about capoeira on July 26th, 1983, in Carapicuiba, Sao Paolo.  Through the completion of a school project, Mestre Azulão met the great Mestre Camarao in Goioerê.  Mestre Azulão trained with Mestre Camarao for 3 years.  From then on, he continued and deepened his capoeira training with Mestre Fran, with the group that was then known as Conceição Da Praia.  In search of a stronger identity, the group soon became known as Associação Cultural de Capoeira Maculele.  

Since joining Maculele, Mestre has traveled all over the world teaching capoeira.  In the United States, Mestre Azulão has taught workshops in Milwaukee, Atlanta, New Orleans, Connecticut, and New York.  We are very fortunate to have Mestre Azulão in Milwaukee, as he is the only certified capoeira master teaching in the Midwest region.

From the time that Associação Cultural de Capoeira Maculele was formed up until today, I have always followed the philospohy of that group.  Today, I am proud to say that people know the man known Mestre Azulão has 24 years dedicated to this genuinely Brazilian art.  I also have some ideas about my work and my personal philosophy.

Capoeira has various assets and a richness, which includes the preseverence and ability to search for and create something new and also strong.  In the past, in the game of capoeira, I did not need to prove anything to anybody.  I have my values and thus I value everyone.  In the twirl of the berimbau, he who commands must respect this tradition: that it is not necessary to hurt the weak one, nor to fall for the strong. I do not want, nor do I pretend that I am the strongest and bravest out there.  I only want to say that I strive to be as strong and as brave as I can be, out of respect to all of my students.  In all aspects, education does not have borders.  Each person must ride the wave of life differently, and each person must find their own way in the game of capoeira.  Everyone has the right to train, to dedicate oneself, to read and to know the difficult citations that capoeira offers.  In this way one learns to accept differences as a virtue.  With this philosophy of humility, malicia, and reason by our side, we can come in and out of any place. This position has a place not only in the house of capoeira, but also in the rest of the world.

Mais conhecido no mundo da capoeira como Mestre Azulão. Conheci a
capoeira na década de 80. E tive o princeiro contato evm 26 de Julho
de 1983 em Carapicuiba S.P. Em um projeto escolar, logo apos voltei a
Goioerê conheci o saldoso o Mestre Camarao. Em treinei por 3 anos. E
ai dei continuidade com o então Mestre Fran do grupo conceição da
praia, que por necessidade de uma identidade passou a se chamar
Associação Cultural de Capoeira Maculele. Onde até os dias de hoje eu
cigo a filosofia deste grupo. Hoje tenho orgulho que as pessoas saibam
que eu Mestre Azulão tem 24 anos dedicados a essa luta genuinamente
Brasileira. Também tenho como trabalho os meus ideais e filosofia
pessoal.

A capoeira tem vários recurso e riqueza basta termos coragem
perseverança e aptidão para buscar e criar algo novo e lapidas também.
Algo velho, no jogo não preciso provar nada a ninguém. Tenho os meus
valores e assim valorizo a todos, na rodo o berimbau e quem manda e
devemos respeitar essa tradição, mais não e preciso machucar os fraco
e nem cair pelos forte.
Não quero e nem pretendo se o mais forte mais sim quero e vou se forte
e valente para respeitar e ser respeitado, em todos os aspecto por que
educação não tem fronteira e todos devem ter para chegar onda a vida o
levar capoeira e livre eu jogo com quem eu quero. Temos esse direito
treine, dedique, leia e saiba o que fazer nas citações difíceis que a
capoeira lhe oferece, seje male avel aceitar as diferenças e uma
virtude, cm a humildade malicia e razão entramos e saimo de todos e
qualquer lugar. Tenha postura mais a sua postura se ganha em casa e o
mundo lhe da o resto.
